MW3 Devs Reveal Return of Classic Weapons

According to Sledgehammer Games, some classic weapons from the Modern Warfare series are going to make a return to MW3.

In a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), the MW3 devs responded directly to a query regarding the return of some iconic weapons from Modern Warfare’s illustrious past.

Below, we’re going to go into what they said, which guns they alluded to, and what classic guns we think may come to MW3 in future updates!

The comment was in response to a fan query about the possible return of the popular SPAS-12 Shotgun. Sledgehammer Games hinted at the weapon’s return by stating that classic Shotguns and Sniper Rifles are coming down the line.

The devs also mentioned that they will add classic weapons in “future Seasonal updates”. This suggests that they won’t add classic weapons with Season 1’s launch in early December.

The earliest COD fans will likely these classic weapons will be in a post-launch update for Season 1.

Classic Weapons Predictions for MW3

Although Sledgehammer Games didn’t reveal any specific classic weapons in the AMA, we can narrow down what iconic guns we expect them to add to MW3 in future updates.

It’s important to note that the devs only referred to classic Shotguns and Sniper Rifles coming to MW3. However, it’s safe to assume that classic weapons of other weapon types will also make an appearance down the line.

In keeping with the spirit of the AMA, we’re going to (mainly) focus on the most iconic and fan-requested Shotguns and Sniper Rifles that we think will come to MW3 in future updates:

SPAS-12

It’s a pretty safe bet that the SPAS-12 will make an appearance in MW3 at some point. It’s the weapon that sparked the response from the devs on Reddit in the first place!

It has appeared in many Call of Duty titles over the years. It’s one of the best Shotguns the series has ever known. This weapon sustains an absurdly high damage output at a very decent range for a Shotgun. It’s the go-to choice for many players who like to get up close and personal!

Kar98k

The Kar98k is a classic World War 2 bolt-action Sniper Rifle that has appeared in many iterations of Call of Duty. It most recently appeared in the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot and Warzone.

It’s one of the best Sniper Rifles the series has known, thanks to its fast ADS, decent fire rate, and amazing range.

There’s a reason so many fans were requesting the return of the Kar98k in the AMA:

Model 1887 Akimbo

What original MW2 player doesn’t remember these shotguns? Making their debut in the original Modern Warfare 2, the Model 1887s were a joy to use and a nightmare to deal with.

They boasted an extremely high damage output with a very decent range. This fan seems to agree:

In Modern Warfare 3, you can run Akimbo on your secondary weapons by unlocking and equipping the Akimbo Grip attachment.

If Sledgehammer Games are looking to provide a little fan service, they can’t really go wrong with adding the Model 1887 Akimbo Shotguns. Let’s just hope they’re properly balanced this time around!

Barrett .50 Cal

Despite its huge recoil, the Barret .50 Cal was considered one of the most powerful Sniper Rifles in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and MW2 titles back in the day.

Its higher fire rate allowed players to also take out targets more reliably at close range when their position was pressed in multiplayer.

The Barrett .50 Cal would go hand in hand with MW3’s larger maps, allowing you to take out enemies at range with ease!

Grau 5.56

We had to include an Assault Rifle in this list! The Grau 5.56 is a more recent AR, but it can proudly sit amongst some of the best of them.

With the right attachments, the Grau 5.56 can almost completely eliminate recoil, allowing you to stay on target and pick off headshots with relative ease.

Its popularity in Warzone is a testament to the weapon’s potential and stopping power. It would be a welcome addition to MW3’s more open multiplayer maps and Zombies mode.
